A project commissioned by Deep Roots Tall Trees with Amanda Drage, Matt Merritt and Warren Shaw curated by Rosalind Stoddart.

An exhibition of 10 bird paintings and bird song at the Rooftop Art Centre, Corby 18th – 28th October 11am – 4pm Wednesday to Saturday.

‘Corby and Migration’ highlights the importance of the urban woodlands in Corby, the birds that pass through them and the fluctuating populations of species.

This ‘Corby and Migration’ project is part of the Woodland Trust Charter for Trees, Woods and People programme which is launched on 6 November 2017.

The theme ‘Corby and Migration’ will examine the birds that migrate through the town’s woodlands (as well as the indigenous species that live there) and how they are affected by the changes in the town as Corby continues to grow and develop.

Ornithologist, journalist and poet, Matt Merritt, has researched the local bird populations and, in response, Amanda has painted the most significant birds in Corby’s woods, such as the Greenfinch, Sparrowhawk and Spotted Flycatcher. Come and find out about these and the other seven.

Warren Shaw, a sonic and visual artist, will create soundscapes and visual work based on the bird song and sounds of the woodlands that relate to the birds that Amanda has painted. They will jointly deliver an audio/visual workshop around their work for people to enjoy on Sunday 22nd October. These workshops will commence at the Rooftop Arts Centre, followed by a walk through Hazel and Thoroughsale Woods in the heart of the town centre.

Call in at the Rooftop Arts Centre between 11am and 4pm to make drawings in response to the exhibition or go on a Treasure Hunt! There will be small prizes for all those who get every answer right.

During the last two weeks of October, the project will feature dramatic billboards in Willow Place shopping centre.
